Truth about the Heating System
For all of you who wonder whether we eat enough (oh yes, man, we do!!) and healthy enough (ahem, well, we give it a try, sort of) and whether we sleep well (depends mostly on the presumably 90%-deaf jerk below us and the ear-blowing volume of his electronic devices) - this is the time to tell you the whole truth about our heating system. I could have done so at 5 this morning, but I just was not in the mood. Yes, at 5 in the morning we were woken up today (Saturday of course) by a noise of pumping water and steam in mixture with washing machine-like noises that lasted for hours. Hey, yeah, it is warm enough here, but not exactly the temperature you would prefer for your bedroom. The problem: the bedroom heating is turned off, but heats up nevertheless. In the living room we have more of a “choice” between “cool” (fresh air coming in from the air conditioning - no matter if turned on or off - through which you can see right onto the street) and kind of “sauna” after you turn the wheel all the way to the right (= on) - preferably without burning your fingers at the hot steam that evaporates while turning - there is just no way of regulating this f****** thing. So regulation is all about how much to open the window while heating. Well, you got the idea.
Tip of the day: If you need something to cheer you up, I’d recommend the Adam Green video Nat King Cole (–> click on “music” there) which features also a bit of NYC - either you feel even worse afterwards or you’re fine. It worked for me …

I, too, have had experience with steam heating systems. You both have my sympathy. I hope the boat ride around Manhattan compensated a bit for that. Continue to enjoy Indian Summer.
Love to you both,
