The Democrats Did It!

Wow, what a small margin but now the Democrats have the majority in both chambers of Congress (together with the left-leaning independents)! So now they can have the power to control the spending of the government and investigate into their doings. With the Senate they also have more influence on the election of the next members of the Supreme Court.

Of course George W. Bush is still in office and even with Donald Rumsfeld going there is still thec controverse vice president and some other hardliners plus many of the new representatives are more conservative than the base of the Democrats. But still I hope we will see more internal and international cooperation in the next two years.

I think a good ending for this entry is a quote from a news-briefing Rumsfeld gave at the defense department in October 2001:

Things will not be necessarily continuous.
The fact that they are something other than perfectly continuous
Ought not to be characterized as a pause.
There will be some things that people will see.
There will be some things that people won’t see.
And life goes on.
