Gramercy and Flatiron
Recently, we walked around a little bit in Gramercy and its adjacent borough which is named after the famous Flatiron Building (looks as if you went over it with the “Bügeleisen” or if it were the mere facade of a building that is not there actually). 1902 this was the highest building of NYC. We entered the lobbies of the New York Life Insurance Company Building (the one with golden pyramid roof) and the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (the one with the clock tower) which have magnificent ceilings, just as you would expect them in any better European castle. They also cope with respect to the amount of oil paintings they put up there. Life insurances seems to be the business, right? Those buildings are located around the beautiful green spot Madison Square. Gramercy Park also looks very nice, but is only accessible for people who live there (do they have keys for the park gate?). If you like, have a look at Patrick’s pictures of this walk. I also really liked the 3rd Avenue with lots of nice little flower shops, bakeries, vitamin and health shops, cafés etc., which we walked back up to 28 St. in Murray Hill, where everything got really Indian, lots of Indian restaurants that is. Patrick showed me the hotel he stayed in in September and also “Curry in a hurry” - the extremely fast Indian take away.
